Day 2

Whoo! Day 2 was long but went really well. We made it farther than we thought we would and had a great time doing it!

Starting out in Loraine, OH, we left early in the morning. We had a quick breakfast provided by the hotel. Then we set off to the west, headed towards Indiana.

There was lots of corn along the way

Our destination was Chicago, where we were hoping to get some famous deep dish pizza for lunch.

We decided to go to Giordano's, and it was a great decision

Heading out of Chicago we hit a little traffic, but it cleared up quickly and we were again on our way, this time to Madison, Wisconsin.

We wanted to visit UW@Madison, as Cathy's grandparents went there.

We were trying to find a sign that just said University of Wisconsin but we settled for this one

After Wisconsin it was NW towards Minnesota

We hit a little rain, but nothing big

We also saw some cool rock formations

We decided to call it an early night and stop at the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota. We stopped at Olive Garden for dinner, and it was excellent!

However, we hit a little snag -- there was some technical conference going on and all the (many) hotels in the area were booked. Time to go westward some more. Over the Mississippi River we went.

We finally found a nice place to stay in Rochester, Minnesota.

Today was quite a busy day but we had a great time. We really appreciate all the comments that everyone's been leaving, they're really fun to read while on the road (The passenger, of course, is reading them) so keep them coming!

We also got a few more states for our license plate game, but I don't have the list here with me so I can't update it. I'll make sure to get that for tomorrow night. I can, however, tell you that we have almost all of the Canadian provinces! Only missing 3 I believe. Yay!

Tomorrow will be a more low-key day. We'll be heading into boring South Dakota, where there aren't any real places we want to stop so we'll probably just drive straight through. We hope to get over into Wyoming by tomorrow night. It's a long way but I think we can do it.

We also had an extra hour today due to the time change which allowed us to get a lot more done. We will get another one tomorrow so we're sure to make it to where we want to be.

Well, after this extremely long post we're ready to go to bed! Again, thanks everyone for your support and please check in again tomorrow night for another update!

Love,

Tim and Cathy

  1. On, Wisconsin! Madison...such a wonderful town. And hopefully there will be something interesting, but not too interesting, in South Dakota. Going anywhere near http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Smet,_South_Dakota? Laura Ingalls Wilder lived there. Thanks for the updates!
